In addition to the huge number of sheep, you can very often come across horses in Iceland. When you are in Iceland, make sure you do not call one of them a pony. It’s the easiest way to irritate an Icelander. Although Icelandic horses aren’t too big and actually look a little like bigger ponies, in Icelanders' opinion they have nothing in common with ponies.

In this country, horses are taken very seriously, so the word pony even does not exist in Icelandic. For local people they are noble and strong animals, which should be respected. From the beginning of the settlement, they were not only a means of transport, but also faithful friends.

Horses are bred almost on the majority of local farms. They are everywhere, thousands of them. During our travels around Iceland, we can never resist stopping and observing these beautiful creatures. The one captured in this photograph was so willing to pose. First he came slowly and started to sniff us. When we gave him some hay, he was so happy. We wish we could have taken him with us. At least we have this portrait.
